Network & Facilities

Network

The rejila network operates on a Cisco redundant switching fabric with dual redundant uplinks into the Ultra Serve core network. The network is configured with dual-stack IPv4 and IPv6 support and provides gigabit or greater connectivity into Ultra Serve’s core network.

All customers are securely segemented from one another using 802.1Q VLANs and dedicated IP subnets for private and public network segments.

Ultra Serve utilises high-speed links from multiple upstream carriers & multi-state connectivity to Internet Exchanges to provide a high quality, high capacity IP network service to its customers. The network features Cisco core routers and switches in a highly redundant configuration

Facilities

Global Switch - Sydney, New South Wales (NSW) Australia

The facility provides the highest quality carrier neutral solution in technical real estate design, reliability, security and operational effectiveness. With a gross area of 41,575sqm this is not only the largest facility of this type, but is the highest quality purpose built data centre facility in Australia.

The building is designed solely for IT & Communications related usage, not sharing its facility for other usage. Its infrastructure design is extremely resilient, ensuring minimum N+1 configuration for mission critical services. It is also the only facility that can offer a true 99.999% SLA in Australia.

The facility operates a full 24 x 7 x 365 on site engineering team and operates “Best of Breed” engineering procedures including predictive maintenance, preventative maintenance and conventional “fix it” maintenance via the use of a ARCHIBUS PPM softwares system. This allows us to operate the facilities to a high quality standard with consistent benchmarking.

Key features;

  • Uptime Institute Tier 3+ Rated Data Centre
  • 99.999% availability on environmental services
  • Diesel generator backup systems and onsite fuel capacity up to 48 hours
  • 24/7 security officers and building engineers onsite
  • Lockable secure racking, or caging.
  • Carrier neutral facility and with multiple tier-1 carriers and fibre entry point diversity

Building Features

Electrical

The facility has two 33kV cable feeds from the local switching/power stations with two 33/11kV transformers located onsite, which provides n+1 redundancy.

Transformers on each level of the building are connected with 11kV reticulated cabling in a parallel redundant configuration. Cabling originates from switchboards connected to rotary UPS system in the basement, this provides a clean continuous power output for equipment in the facility.

The UPS and standby power generation is provided by a rotary UPS system that are able to fully support the facility under maximum load. Multiple diesel generators are located on site should there be an interruption from the primary power source. 48 hours of fuel capacity is available and a 24x7 fuel supply contract ensures that the facility power can be supplied independently.
Environment
A constant temperature of 22°C (+/- 1°C) and 50% relative humidity is maintained throughout the technical areas of the facility.

Chilled water is produced by two water-cooled central chillers in a n+1 configuration, circulated down to blow process coolers in the technical areas. The chillers are provided with continuous power from the UPS system.

The technical areas run at a minimum of 125% load to maintain n+1 redundancy. The cooling tower water storage has capacity for 48 hours of operation in the event of mains failure. Water supply also incorporate dual connections to the water authority main using physically separate entry points.

Fire Services

Multi-point smoke detection system is installed in the technical areas and sub floor. In the event of a fire the multi-point smoke detection system will first send an alert signal to the affected area and security will investigate immediately and an evacuation alarm is sounded in the fire-affected area. NSW Fire Brigade is automatically called, gas discharges and the detection system signals the pre-action systems.

Our gas suppression system uses Inergen centrally stored with risers into each technical space. A double interlocked sprinkler system is also installed, providing redundancy from the Inergen supply and can be actioned by the BMS if required. CO2 fire extinguishers are located throughout the building.

Security Services

The facility is manned 24x7 by security officers. The CCTV system is constantly monitored with full coverage of the exterior, entryways, lifts, stairs and site interior on LCD colour monitor screens, all footage is stored on a 28-day digital recording system.

Access is monitored by the security control room and limited by a proximity access control system for access, server rooms, entries and lifts. Multi stage barriers control vehicle entry and revolving access doors controls personnel access.

Intrusion detection sensors monitor the perimeter, windows and doors. These sensors are linked into the CCTV monitoring system in the security control room.
